SUMMARY:Kawuneeche Revegetation Volunteer Event
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to roll up your sleeves and restore Rocky Mountain National Park’s native plant communities on the park’s west side!\nCome work alongside RMNP vegetation staff to re-plant an area near the newly reconstructed west side packing barn\, built to replace the structure destroyed in the 2020 East Troublesome Fire. The area we will plant was disturbed during construction and needs our help to return to native vegetation. We will be spreading mulch and planting a variety of native forbs and grasses\, including Achillea millefolium (yarrow)\, Erigeron flagellaris (Spreading fleabane)\, and Elymus elymoides (Bottlebrush squirreltail bunchgrass). \nWhat to Expect:\nThis project will involve hauling mulch and planting seedlings within a montane site (8000ft elevation) in exposed conditions. Planting will involve kneeling\, stooping\, bending over\, and use of small hand tools. Light to moderate lifting of plant trays may be required. Mulch work will involve using shovels\, pitchforks\, and wheelbarrows to move temporarily staged wood chips\, and mulch around new plantings. \nWater coolers will be available onsite for refills. Restrooms will be available a short walk (less than ¼ mile) from the worksite. Be prepared for variable weather conditions (sun\, wind\, heat\, cold\, light rain). \nMinimum age: 18 years \nDates (weather permitting): August 31 or September 1\, 2026 \nTime: 10:00am – 3:30pm \nMeeting location: Please meet in the outdoor plaza in front of the Kawuneeche Visitor Center. From there\, we will carpool for a short 5-minute drive to the restoration site. \nWork site: RMNP West Packing Barn \nNearest bathroom: RMNP West Packing Barn \nWhat’s provided: Work gloves\, sunscreen\, kneeling pads\, drinking water\, tools. \nWhat to bring: Layers\, rain gear\, sun protection (sunscreen\, hat\, sunglasses)\, gloves if you prefer your own\, day pack\, lunch and snacks\, and a water bottle. \nReady to sign up?\nClick your preferred date below to start the registration process.

SUMMARY:Habitat Heroes Volunteer Day on September 2
DESCRIPTION:Be a hero in the battle against invasive species\, and help to preserve Rocky’s native plants!\n\n\n\n\nRocky Mountain National Park needs your help! Join us this summer for a hands-on day\, removing invasive plant species to help restore the park’s native vegetation. \nInvasive plants are a persistent threat in RMNP\, crowding out native species and disrupting the wildlife that depends on them for food and habitat. The most effective tool we have against them? People willing to get their hands dirty! Your physical effort directly translates into healthier ecosystems and biodiversity that will help protect the park for generations to come. \nAlongside park staff\, you’ll learn to identify invasive species and master proper removal techniques\, skills you can carry with you long after the day ends. Expect a full\, active day outdoors on varied terrain\, but know that every plant pulled is a genuine\, measurable difference made for the landscape you’re helping protect. \nThis is demanding\, rewarding work\, and it matters. Be part of the effort to preserve the natural beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park. Sign up today! \nThere is no fee to participate in this volunteer work day. \nWhat to Expect:\nMinimum age: 18 years \nTime: 9:00am – 3:00pm. Volunteers should plan to stay for the full duration of this event. \nParking/meeting location: Please meet in the outdoor plaza in front of the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. Volunteers will be driven into the park via shuttle vans. \nWork site: Sites to be determined based on conditions. \nNearest bathroom: Bathrooms may be inaccessible for most of the event period. Be prepared to answer nature’s call in nature. \nWhat to bring: Layers for rapidly changing weather\, rain gear\, sun protection (sunscreen\, hat\, sunglasses)\, long sleeve shirt and long pants\, sturdy close-toed shoes\, lunch and snacks\, at least 2 liters of water per person\, gloves (if you prefer your own)\, and a day pack to hold everything. \nPhysical expectations: Manual removal of invasive species is moderately strenuous\, with the entire workday spent on-foot\, and potentially walking distances that can add up to several miles in montane meadows\, forests\, and other front country locations. Plant removal will utilize hand tools such as shovels and pruners to dig out plants and remove seed heads. Participants should expect to be out for the entire time in variable weather conditions\, from hot temperatures in direct sunlight to cold and windy conditions. Events may be cancelled or shortened if weather conditions become a risk to human health and safety. Please be prepared with a daypack containing everything you will need for the day. \n\n\nReady to join us?\n  \n\n\n \nQuestions? Please contact the park’s volunteer office at ROMO_volunteer@nps.gov or 970-586-1330.

SUMMARY:Night Sky Landscape Photography in Rocky Mountain National Park
DESCRIPTION:Capture the beauty of the night sky in stunning landscape photos with us!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants in this 3-day course will learn about image composition\, how to place subjects in the frame\, and how to tell a story with their images. Instructor Stan Honda will teach participants how to take a naturalistic approach to their photography and how to use foreground objects\, like trees or geological formations\, to enhance compositions with stars in the background. Participants will also learn proper exposure for night photos\, concentrating on producing single frames of the sky. Finally\, Stan will instruct participants on image processing to bring out the best in each photo. \nWho: Participants ages 16 and up. \nProgram level: Easy/Moderate – This program is appropriate for most people. The field sessions will take place at dusk and after dark. Expect to travel short distances off trail throughout the program and to be on your feet for several hours at a time. SUMMARY:Wild Ideas: The Biomimicry of Our Public Waters and Wildlands
DESCRIPTION:Join our 2026 Scholar In Residence\, Adelheid Fischer\, for this engaging presentation on what we can learn from Nature’s design solutions.\n\n\n\n\nNature has already solved many of the challenges we face—controlling pathogens\, conserving water\, managing temperature extremes or building structures that are strong and durable with a minimum amount of material. In the U.S.\, there is no greater compilation of solutions than the biodiversity in our public waters and wildlands. Writer and educator Adelheid Fischer explores how our nation’s forests and grasslands\, tundras and lakes\, deserts and oceans can serve as a creative commons of ideas for generating innovative designs and strategies. We hope to see you there! \nAdelheid Fischer is an educator and literary nonfiction writer who focuses on natural history\, ecology and the intersections of nature and culture. She is affiliate faculty and an Affiliate Global Futures Scholar at Arizona State University. She is currently serving as Rocky Mountain Conservancy’s 2026 Scholar in Residence at Rocky Mountain National Park. \nWhen: Saturday\, September 12\, 2026 at 1:00pm \nWhere: Beaver Meadows Visitor Center auditorium\, Estes Park\, CO \nThis program is free and open to the public. Advance registration helps us ensure adequate seating. Registered participants will receive an email reminder two days before the program.

SUMMARY:NPLD Volunteer Event - Bridge Construction in the Kawuneeche Valley
DESCRIPTION:Spend the day helping to construct foot bridges over Bowen Creek on the Continental Divide Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park!\n\n\n\n\nIn honor of National Public Lands Day\, join us to help improve conditions on the Continental Divide Trail by building foot bridges over Bowen Creek. \nWe’re looking for volunteers to assist park staff in constructing three small foot bridges out of logs. Volunteers will help move timber\, peel bark from logs\, dig footing for the sills\, and finally move and secure each section of the bridge into place. There is currently no crossing for the creek\, which poses a challenge to hikers when the water in the creek is high. Your assistance will make a lasting impact on trail conditions in the park! \nDate and Time: September 26\, 2026\, 8:30am – 3:00pm \nAdvance registration is required. \nMeeting Location: Volunteers will meet at the plaza in front of the Kawuneeche Visitor Center\, 16018 US-34\, Grand Lake\, CO 80447. From the visitor center\, participants will caravan in cars to the work site about 4.6 miles away. \nParking is available at the visitor center; please carpool if possible. \nMinimum age: Participants must be at least 18 years old for this event. \nWhat to Expect and Physical Expectations: \nFrom the trailhead\, we will walk half a mile on a relatively flat trail. \nManual labor will include digging\, peeling logs\, carrying heavy materials on irregular ground\, and repetitive motions. This will be highly strenuous for some\, with the entire workday spent on-foot\, and potentially walking distances that can add up to several miles in forests and other front country locations. Bridge construction will utilize hand tools such as shovels\, pulaskis\, mattocks\, rock bars\, log tongs\, and draw knives. Participants should expect to be out for the duration of the project in variable weather conditions\, from hot temperatures in direct sunlight to cold and windy conditions. Events may be cancelled or shortened if weather conditions become a risk to human health and safety. Please be prepared with a daypack containing everything you will need for the day. \nWhat to Bring/Wear: \n\nLayers for rapidly changing weather\, including rain gear and sun protection (sunscreen\, hat\, sunglasses)\,\nLong sleeve shirt and long pants\,\nSturdy closed-toed shoes/boots\,\nLunch and snacks\,\nAt least 2 liters of water per person\,\nWork gloves (if you prefer your own)\,\nSafety glasses (or sunglasses)\,\nA day pack to hold everything.\n\nNearest bathroom: Bathrooms may be inaccessible for most of the event period. Be prepared to answer nature’s call in nature. The nearest pit toilets are at nearby trailheads. \nReady to sign up?\n
