SUMMARY:East Portal & Adams Tunnel History Hike - course full
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the Colorado-Big Thompson Project\, Alva B. Adams Tunnel\, and visit East Portal on this guided history hike!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Rocky Mountain Conservancy for a hike exploring the history beneath Rocky Mountain National Park. This 5-mile round-trip hike from East Portal to Sprague Lake gains 750 feet in elevation and highlights the remarkable story of the Alva B. Adams Tunnel and the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. \nBuilt during the New Deal era\, the project diverted water from the Colorado River to the eastern plains—providing irrigation\, hydroelectric power\, and economic relief during a time of national hardship. \nAlong this moderate hike\, we’ll discuss the ongoing balance between preservation and progress in the Park’s history. Our hike begins with a steep climb over a short distance\, with occasional areas of loose ground\, before leveling off for the remainder of this out and back route. \nWho: Participants ages 16 and up. \nProgram Level: Challenging – These programs are ideal for people accustomed to hiking longer\, steeper trails at elevations above 8\,000 feet. Programs will include travel over rough\, loose\, and uneven terrain. Participants should be able to hike at a pace of 1.5 miles per hour while carrying their own food\, water\, and layered clothing. \nThis program is entirely field based. \nWhen: Friday\, September 18th from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Ending time is approximate and depends on traffic conditions and the pace of the group. Please leave yourself some free time after the hike in case we get back later than expected. \nWhere: We will meet at the Estes Park Visitor Center at 500 Big Thompson Ave\, and travel together to the trailhead in Conservancy vehicles. Look for a large white van with Rocky Mountain Conservancy logos in the visitor center parking lot. Registration includes all park fees and permits. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nBag lunch\nSun protection\nWarm layers (weather depending)\nWaterproof layer(s)\nWater (2 liters recommended)\nSturdy trail shoes or hiking boots\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nRefund Policy: Cancellations made more than 30 days prior to the start of the course are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made fewer than 30 days in advance are not eligible for a refund. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur programs proceed rain or shine\, and participants should be prepared for inclement weather. However\, should we decide to cancel a program due to unsafe weather or emergency conditions\, we will notify participants by email and automatically issue full refunds. \nConservancy members get 10% off individual registration when you use the discount code in your membership email! \nNot a member of the Conservancy? Learn more and join here: Conservancy Membership \nIf you have questions about this course\, please contact the Field Institute by email at education@RMConservancy.org or by phone at 970-586-3262.

SUMMARY:Bettie Course: Bridal Veil Falls Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a women’s hike to Bridal Veil Falls! The hike will take you to a less traveled part of Rocky Mountain National Park. We will begin at Cow Creek Trailhead and hike past the historic McGraw Ranch. The trail follows Cow Creek\, giving you glimpses at other smaller cascades along the way to Bridal Veil. The first part of the trail passes through open fields full of wildflowers where elk are often seen. Eventually\, the trail heads into the woods\, where it begins to climb in elevation\, rewarding you with a stunning waterfall that drops out of a craggy cliff. \nDistance and Elevation Gain: This hike is about 6 miles with 1\,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. \nPlease note these hikes are meant to be an inclusive and fun way to get outside! We will be hiking at a pace that is comfortable for a large group. Everyone should feel like they can chat on the trail! This typically means a 1-1.5 mile per hour pace on the way up and a 1.5-2 mile per hour pace on the way down. The focus of these hikes is community building and connection and we intentionally move at a moderate pace. \nThe Conservancy provides transportation to and from the trailhead. Registration includes all Park fees and permits. \nWho: This program is intended for women ages 16 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhen: Wednesday\, June 17th from 8:00am – 2:30pm. Ending time is approximate and depends on traffic conditions and the pace of the group. Please leave yourself some free time after the hike in case we get back later than expected. \nWhere: We will meet at the Estes Park Visitor Center (500 Big Thompson Ave\, Este Park\, CO) and travel together to the trailhead in Conservancy vehicles. Look for a large white van with Rocky Mountain Conservancy logos in the bus parking area of the lot (east side). \nWhat to Bring: \n\nOur 10 Essentials for Field Courses is a good place to start!\nBag lunch\nSun protection\nWarm layers (weather depending)\nWaterproof layer(s)\nWater (2 liters recommended)\nSturdy trail shoes or hiking boots\n\nWeather: \nRocky Mountain Conservancy reserves the right to change the program location due to trail and weather conditions at any time. \nOur programs proceed rain or shine. However\, if weather or road conditions become unsafe\, Rocky Mountain Conservancy will cancel the program. Participants will be notified by email and full refunds will be issued automatically for all participants. \nCancellations: \nIf your plans change and you are no longer able to join us\, please send an email to education@RMConservancy.org to let us know or cancel your registration through Eventbrite. We often have a waitlist\, and your cancellation allows someone else to join. \nRefunds will be automatically issued for cancellations made at least 7 days in advance.
