DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exploration of the stunning native orchids found in Rocky Mountain National Park!\nDid you know a variety of orchids make their home in and around Rocky Mountain National Park? \nIt’s true! Orchids aren’t only found in the tropics – they’re hiding in plain sight across RMNP and Colorado. In this course\, participants will learn about orchid terminology\, characteristics of the orchid family\, the symbiotic relationship to fungi and other plants\, the history of orchid uses\, and the different species found in and around RMNP. We’ll spend half the day discovering where these captivating plants are hidden in the park\, and the other half in an illustrated lecture on all things orchid. \nWho: Participants ages 16 and up. \nProgram level: Easy/Moderate – This program is appropriate for most people. Expect to travel 1-2 miles over the course of the program and to be on your feet for several hours at a time. Participants should be comfortable navigating both maintained trails and unmaintained meadows or wooded areas. There will be periods of off trail travel during this course. Transportation will be in a 15-passenger van with bench seats and a narrow aisle that requires stepping up to enter. SUMMARY:Guided Hike: Ouzel Falls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful waterfall filled hike in Rocky Mountain National Park!\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a hike to Ouzel Falls from the Wild Basin Trailhead. This waterfall-packed trip starts from the Wild Basin Trailhead and closely follows North St. Vrain Creek past Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascades before reaching Ouzel Falls. Keep an eye out for blooming wildflowers and birds that call Wild Basin home. Park entry fees and timed entry permits are included in the registration fee. \nDistance and Elevation Gain: This hike is about 5.5 miles with 1\,000ft of elevation gain. \nPlease note these hikes are meant to be an inclusive and fun way to get outside! We will be hiking at a pace that is comfortable for a large group. Everyone should feel like they can chat on the trail! This typically means a 1-1.5 mile per hour pace on the way up and a 1.5-2 mile per hour pace on the way down. The focus of these hikes is community building and connection and we intentionally move at a moderate pace. \nThe Conservancy provides transportation to and from the trailhead. Registration includes all Park fees and permits. \nWho: This program is intended for anyone ages 16 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhen: Thursday\, June 11th from 9:00am – 3:30pm. Ending time is approximate depending on traffic in the park and pace of the group. Please leave yourself some free time after the hike in case we get back later than expected. \nWhere: We will meet at the Estes Park Event Complex (1125 Rooftop Way\, Estes Park\, CO) and travel together to the trailhead in Conservancy vehicles. This invigorating adventure takes us through peaceful woodlands\, with scenic overlooks along the way and rewarding panoramic views at the top. This guided hike offers a supportive and inspiring environment to connect with nature and enjoy the beauty of the summer. Park entry fees and timed entry permits are included in the registration fee. \nDistance: 6 miles \nStarting Elevation: 8\,930 feet \nElevation gain and loss: 1\,300 feet \nLevel: Moderate – These programs are most appropriate for those with some hiking experience. Participants should be comfortable navigating both maintained trails and unmaintained meadows or grassy areas. Prior experience hiking or walking above 8\,000 feet is recommended. This program is open to participants ages 16 and up. \nPlease note these hikes are meant to be an inclusive and fun way to get outside! We will be hiking at a pace that is comfortable for a large group. Everyone should feel like they can chat on the trail! This typically means a 1-1.5 mile per hour pace on the way up and a 1.5-2 mile per hour pace on the way down. The focus of these hikes is community building and connection and we intentionally move at a moderate pace. \nThe Conservancy provides transportation to and from the trailhead. Registration includes all Park fees and permits. \nWho: This program is intended for anyone ages 16 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhen: Thursday\, June 25th from 8:00am – 2:30pm. Ending time is approximate depending on traffic in the park and pace of the group. Please leave yourself some free time after the hike in case we get back later than expected. \nMeeting Location: We will meet at the Estes Park Events Complex (1125 Rooftop Way\, Estes Park\, CO) and travel to the trailhead together in Conservancy vehicles. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun and educational day exploring the enchanting world of butterflies in Rocky Mountain National Park!\n\n\n\nDid you know that butterflies fly in every life zone of Rocky Mountain National Park? This introductory-level interactive field class will begin with a brief introduction to basic butterfly biology\, including patterns of butterfly behavior\, diversity\, and important habitats in the park. We will learn to observe and identify butterflies\, while discussing conservation concerns\, the rich history of decades of research on Lepidoptera\, and the many other valuable pollinators that occur in the park. This program will include a brief classroom session\, but we will spend most of our time outdoors. \nWho: Participants ages 16 and up. \nProgram level: Easy – Appropriate for most participants. Expect frequent short walks with ample breaks. Participants will be walking on hardened surfaces or open grassy meadows\, with some off trail travel. Transportation will be in a 15-passenger van with bench seats and a narrow aisle that requires stepping up to enter. Participants may travel in vehicles to elevations above 12\,000 feet. \nWhen: Friday\, June 26th\, from 10:00am to 2:00pm \nWhere: Meet at the Grand Lake Center and travel together to various locations within RMNP in Conservancy vehicles. Sara worked as a Research Associate at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory at CSU for 20 years\, and leads butterfly courses and nature programs across Colorado\, while based in the Central Colorado Mountains.
