SUMMARY:Guided Hike: Lake Helene
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hike to Lake Helene! Starting from Bear Lake\, you’ll climb up the moraine and hike over to the neighboring basin passing Two Rivers Lake on your way. Lake Helene provides a beautiful place to stop for lunch\, admire the clear waters and amazing views of Notchtop Mountain. Enjoy the sound of pikas on the trail and keep your eyes peeled for wildflowers! \nDistance and Elevation Gain: This hike is about 6.2 miles with 1300 ft of elevation gain. \nPlease note these hikes are meant to be an inclusive and fun way to get outside! We will be hiking at a pace that is comfortable for a large group. Everyone should feel like they can chat on the trail! This typically means a 1-1.5 mile per hour pace on the way up and a 1.5-2 mile per hour pace on the way down. The focus of these hikes is community building and connection and we intentionally move at a moderate pace. \nThe Conservancy provides transportation to and from the trailhead. Registration includes all Park fees and permits. \nWho: This program is intended for anyone ages 16 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhen: Friday\, July 24th from 8:00am – 2:30pm. Ending time is approximate depending on traffic in the park and pace of the group. Please leave yourself some free time after the hike in case we get back later than expected. \nWhere: We will meet at the Estes Park Visitor Center (500 Big Thompson Ave\, Estes Park\, CO 80517)\, and travel together to the trailhead in Conservancy vehicles. Look for a large white van with Rocky Mountain Conservancy logos in the visitor center parking lot. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nOur 10 Essentials for Field Courses is a good place to start!\nBag lunch\nSun protection\nWarm layers\nWaterproof layer(s)\nWater (2 liters recommended)\nSturdy trail shoes or hiking boots\n\nWeather: \nRocky Mountain Conservancy reserves the right to change the program location due to trail and weather conditions at any time. \nOur programs proceed rain or shine. However\, if weather or road conditions become unsafe\, Rocky Mountain Conservancy will cancel the program. Participants will be notified by email and full refunds will be issued automatically for all participants. \nCancellations: \nIf your plans change and you are no longer able to join us\, please send an email to education@RMConservancy.org to let us know. We often have a waitlist\, and your cancellation allows someone else to join. \nRefunds will be automatically issued for cancellations made at least 7 days in advance. SUMMARY:Bats of Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park - course full
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the fascinating world of bats in Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park!\n\n\n\nIn this course\, bat ecology expert Jeremy Siemers will introduce participants to the evolution\, ecology\, behavior\, anatomy\, threats\, and population status of Colorado’s bats in an illustrated lecture\, complete with video and acoustic materials. Participants will also learn about the various types of survey equipment used to monitor bat populations across Colorado. After the classroom session\, the group will travel together to nearby foraging habitat to observe and listen to bat activity. \nWho: Participants ages 16 and up. \nProgram level: Easy – Appropriate for most participants. Expect frequent short walks with ample breaks. Participants should be comfortable navigating both maintained trails and unmaintained meadows or wooded areas. Transportation will be in a 15-passenger van with bench seats and a narrow aisle that requires stepping up to enter. Please note that the field session of this program begins at dusk. \nThis program has a classroom session and a field session. \nWhen: Friday\, July 24\, 2026 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm \nWhere: Meet at the Fall River Visitor Center\, 3450 Fall River Road\, Estes Park\, CO 80517\, and travel together to various locations within RMNP in Conservancy vehicles. All required fees and permits for park entry are included in your registration. \nWhat to Bring: \n\n10 Essentials for Field Institute Courses\nA headlamp or flashlight (optional but helpful)\n\n  \n\n\n\nAbout Your Instructor: Jeremy Siemers has worked with bats for more than 20 years and is the lead zoologist for the Colorado Natural Heritage Program\, a research program at Colorado State University. He has conducted surveys and monitoring of bats throughout Colorado in habitats ranging from caves and mines to stock ponds and cattle troughs. He is also involved in the North American Bat Monitoring Program\, a continent-wide effort to monitor bats. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRefund Policy: Cancellations made more than 30 days prior to the start of the course are eligible for a full refund.
